My first observation is that this is a great read for all adults and teens, not just young adults. I am in my sixties, am an avid reader of all things (fiction and nonfiction), and I thoroughly enjoyed reading every page of this book.
The storyline grabs you with the aftermath of a Tsunami and takes you through the coming of age for the main characters, Allotar and Daniel. These characters are relatable and likable, and you want good things to happen to them! The setting moves between two very different countries, Finland and Thailand, and the author provides vivid details of the weather, culture, natural beauty, and ideals of each country.
This book is a work of fiction interspersed with a lot of facts and concerns regarding climate change and the issues that these changes bring. This information was masterfully woven into the story line, and I learned a lot without feeling lectured.
I would highly recommend this book. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!
